Pierced by Revd David Stolton

On you, O Lord,
On you I look.
Not them Lord,
It is I,
I who look on you, whom I have pierced;
Pierced with my sin, my shame,
My deeds crushing thorns upon your head,crown of thorns by David Stolton
Flaying skin from skin;
My sin.

For you, O Lord,
For you I weep.
Not them Lord,
It is I,
I who weep for you, whom I have pierced;
Pierced with my spear, my thorn,
Your wounds pouring love and tears divine
Upon their sin
And mine.

Your grace, O Lord, you pour
On all the world
In peace.
Like blood and water from your side,
Sin’s spear, your love released.
Now by your Spirit I am freed
And weep with all the earth
As grace envelopes every need
With resurrection birth.

Calvary by Catherine James

Your life was always a public one,
lived among us,
for us.

Five thousand fed.
There were other boats too, on the storm-tossed lake.

And through the city shoppers
and the festival crowds,
you went out to Calvary,
at the crossroads,
in the brightness of a Spring day.

Not a quiet death
in the privacy of a darkened room.

But against the sky,
through the long hours of an April afternoon,
on the summit of a bare hill
outside safe walls.

Your death too was a public one,
among us,
for us.
