Gabriel
If ever there was a message
To get right
It was this one.
But for once
I doubted Him.
I mean,
Why this peasant,
Why not some queen,
Or prophetess, perhaps?
Not some unknown,
Naïve, sixteen.
But all the same
I went.
And He was right.
No learned cynic,
No worldly eye.
No too clever intellect,
No weary sigh.
Untainted faith,
Relying not on wealth
Or intellect,
So called maturity.
Just love,
And His image
Painted on her soul.
He was right
As her face
Outshone my angel-light.
