ArtServe was an initiative of the former Methodist Church Music Society (MCMS) which started life in 1935 as a fellowship of Methodist organists and choirmasters. At that time, not only were these the only people in most churches with any responsibility for music, but also music was almost the sole art form regualrly used in worship.
ArtServe started as an initiative of the Methodist Church Music Society (MCMS) which was formed in 1935 to support Methodist musicians and music in worship. MCMS was founded when a group of organists and choirmasters attended a weekend retreat. At the time these were the only people in most churches who had any responsibility for music in worship.
